Cannes, Tuesday, January 3, 2023

We spent the morning doing the final packing of Beast II and a few other bags for drop-off at the storage unit. Then it was a bus ride to the unit lugging that stuff.

We each have a modest checked bag and a backpack for two months in Spain.

Here is what we are leaving behind.

Next to the storage lockers is a sports car storage area. Outside today was this sweet XKE V 12 convertible. Inside were several exotic sports cars and a handful of Rolls Royces awaiting their owner’s return.

We walked home along the sea to get our 10,000 steps in today and were treated to a nice sunset.

Cannes, Monday, January 2, 2023

Today was pack and store day as we get ready for our Wed trip to Spain for two months.

We had to pack for Spain first, so we could store our other things for a few months in a  locker in Cannes. We finished packing one of our large suitcases (The Beast 1)  and two other bags and dragged them to a storage locker via the bus.

The manager of the facility was interesting. He grew up in Russia, joined the French Foreign Legion, and now lives near Cannes. He cannot visit his parents because he would be conscripted into the Russian armed forces if he returned. Needless to say, he is not a fan of Putin.

I also had a nice chat on the phone with my two daughters, getting caught up on this Christmas and New Years’ activities.

Cannes, Sunday, January 1, 2023

Happy New year, 2023.

Cannes, Saturday, December 31, 2022

We locked down our Cannes housing for March – mid-May by renewing our current apartment.  It provides a good location at a great price.  https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/49265634

Cannes, Friday, December 30, 2022

The weather was great today, especially for late December, mid 60’s during the day.

Cannes forecast for the next few days.

Having flamed out on our sea view apartment we reconnected with our current owner to see if we could return for March-April and May 2023.  We are working on details but they look favorable.  The space and location is great and this will give us a good base to find a long term solution to our Cannes housing.

Over the next few days, we need to repack and drop off our bags for storage for our two months in Spain.

Cannes, Thursday, December 29, 2022

Today we spent the day with our friends from Nice, Bruce and Sheila. We explored the town and caught lunch downtown. It was nice seeing them again.

While waking I received a call from our Real-estate agent telling me that we had an appointment with the apartment owner  we were to rent for 5 months in Cannes. We met the owners at the apartment. After the apartment  tour we reconvened in their apartment down the hall to discuss “terms” .

It seems that our deal wasn’t a deal after all as they wanted to jack up the rates for the summer. This is customary in Cannes but not part of our original discussions.

They said they would get back to us with the new rates.

Having revisited the apartment we have decided not to go forward with this deal. The main appeal were the reasonable rates and the fact that we could stay there for 10 months. It also felt a bit too small although it was on the sea.

Walking home we enjoyed some of the Cannes Christmas lights.

For an overview of our Paris trip (Dec 19 – Dec 27 ) go here

Cannes, Sunday, December 18, 2022

Tomorrow Dec 19, we head to Paris for Christmas Week.
Originally I bought a Nice to Paris ticket, but yesterday I noticed that the train stops in Cannes. So we will just hop on here and spare ourselves a trip to Nice. We will take the Fast TGV for the 6-hour,  580-mile ride which costs 58 EU each. We will arrive at 6:03 PM.
We will be in Paris all week until Christmas Day staying near Gare de Lyon at Citizen M hotel
On Christmas Day we are traveling to Bordeaux for a meeting at the Prefecture the next day to finalize our Visa renewal. We will be paying our 225 Eu Visa renewal tax.
We will take the train from Paris Gare Montparnasse to Bordeaux St Jean to arrive 2 hours later on Christmas Day. Our appointment is late morning on Dec 26.
We will stay in Bordeaux, at the Best Western Grand Hotel and fly back to Nice on Dec 27.
Our flight from Bordeaux to Nice is just over 2 hours and costs about 100 Eu each.
One of the delights of living in Cannes is the ease and modest cost of travel.

Cannes, Saturday, December  17, 2022

Today we previewed an apartment in Cannes that is available from our return from Spain on  Feb 26 to the end of June. It has a great location and a nice sea view at a reasonable price. Our real estate agent is pulling together the details which we will address on our return from Paris.

We are looking forward to having a more permanent place.

Cannes, Friday, December  16, 2022

We heard back from the French health agency regarding our application for the French healthcare system.  They have asked us for some additional information. This will be easy to provide and confirms that they are processing our applications.

Getting into the system is an important step in our French residence.

Cannes, Saturday, December  10, 2022

Today I messed around with Lensa a popular art app that creates avatar portraits from selfies.

Here are a few of Rebecca and me.

PS -France beats England 2 to 1.

Cannes, Friday, December  9, 2022

Rebecca was able to log us on to the Bordeaux Prefecture to make an appointment to resolve our Visa issues.  It is a bit of a hassle as Bordeaux and Cannes are not that close.

Appointments are only available on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. Complicating things are our travel plans for Christmas week in Paris and our two months in Spain for Jan and Feb.

After checking multiple train and plane schedules we finally found the best situation.

We will take a train (6 hours)  from Paris to Bordeaux on December 25, for our December 26 appointment, overnight in Bordeaux and fly back to  Nice/Cannes on December 27. It is not as bad as it sounds as France has excellent transportation.

Cannes, Thursday, December  8, 2022

Today we took the train back to Nice (7.4 Eu each) to retrieve our large suitcases (nicknamed The Beasts)  from our Nice storage unit.  We need to grab some Winter things and also wish to get a storage locker in Cannes for our stuff to make access easier. It was a quick in and out day lugging the Beasts home. We still have a few more things in Nice which we will retrieve in a few days.

We also finally connected with the Prefecture in Bordeaux regarding our Visa renewals. It turns out we do have to go there to pay the tax (225 EU each ) in person. We were not allowed to change our address in France until the tax is paid. We will make an appointment tomorrow and set travel to go there.

Nice, Monday, December 5, 2022

When I awoke I called Air BnB to complain about the apartment heat. They were very cooperative and allowed us to cancel the apartment without penalty, and gave us a credit for our trouble.

Once settling that, I reached out to an Air BnB in Cannes (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/49265634)    and booked December there. I negotiated a nice discount with the owner.

We packed up and headed back to Cannes taking a train and then a taxi to the new place. We are finding the new place much better than the Nice place so it all worked out to our advantage.

Nice, Sunday, December 4, 2022

Today we moved from Cannes to Nice for a one-month stay at our new Air BnB (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/12929640) . This had been booked before we decided to make Cannes our permanent home.

We hated to leave our Cannes place as it was great, good location, and nice sea view. Our host allowed us to stay a few additional hours as check-in at Nice wasn’t until 3 PM.

We took a taxi from the apartment to the Nice train station with our bags. The ride was about 40 minutes.

We were familiar with the neighborhood due to our previous stays in Nice.

We checked in via a phone conversation with our new landlord and hauled the bags up 4 flights of stairs.

We were somewhat underwhelmed with the new place. It was small and drafty. The bed was on a platform which made it very difficult to get in and out of.

We decided to make the most of it and headed out to get some food provisions before dark.

Upon returning we noticed that it was getting rather cold in the apartment. I contacted the landlord for instructions on how to use the heat. It turns out that the heater was not working well and was inadequate to heat the place.

Cannes, Monday, November 28, 2022

We have been struggling to identify how to pay the taxes on our Visa renewal mostly due to our constant address change.

I finally connected with the Bordeaux Prefecture to set up an appointment to pick up our Visa renewal. To do so we have to fly to Bordeaux for the day. I’m trying to get the appointment changes to Nice to make the trip easier.

Cannes, Sunday, November 27, 2022

Rebecca had an excellent idea for us to spend Christmas Week in Paris so we booked a train and Hotel for that week. We will take the TGV for a 6-hour ride to Paris

It is a bit of a splurge but, hey we are in Europe.

We will be in Paris from Monday, Dec 19 to Christmas Day December 25.

Cannes, Thursday, November 24, 2022

We celebrated Thanksgiving in Cannes today with slow-cooked turkey legs (we both like dark meat), brioche dressing, and Rebecca’s mashers while listening to jazz and the waves on our balcony.

Much to be thankful for.

Cannes, Tuesday, November 22, 2022

We have been out apartment hunting seeking a long-stay opportunity in Cannes.

It seems there is no universal database for apartments so we have to visit multiple agents to explain what we are looking for.

The key challenge is that many people have vacation homes in Cannes, rent them out for the conventions (called congresses) for high rates in the spring and summer, and use them for the holidays. Not many offer long-stay rentals.

It is a bit of work but the more one sees the better one’s chances of finding a good deal.

Cannes, Friday, November 18, 2022

The waves have been spectacular the last few days.

Cannes, Wednesday, November 16, 2022

We have been enjoying our sea view and sunsets at our current Air BnB. We leave here on Dec 4 for a month in Nice.

Cannes, Wednesday, November 9, 2022

Rebecca is relieved that the midterms don’t look as bad as predicted.

The weather here has been very pleasant, especially for November.

We enjoyed a nice sunrise today as Rebecca breathlessly reviewed the election results with some relief.

Cannes, Tuesday, November 8, 2022

Today I walked to the La Bocca area to drop off our applications for French Health Insurance.  It turns out they have to be mailed to the CPAM office in Nice which I did at the local post office.

Rebecca and I explored the area after picking up a few more provisions and supplies. La Bocca is a very working-class area of Cannes with nice beaches.

Cannes la Bocca is a seven-kilometer coastal sand beach along Boulevard du Midi of Mandelieu La Napoule to the west and Cannes is to the east. There are several nautical clubs in this zone with kiosks where we can grab a bite and a few restaurants on the beach.

Today are the midterms in the US. Rebecca is on pins and needles.

Cannes, Sunday, November 6, 2022

Today we took an Uber and moved to our new Cannes Air BnB.

We were pleasantly surprised that we like it much more than we expected. Great view of the sea and at a great price.

We may grab it for March 2023 as we seek a more permanent apartment to live.

Cannes, Wednesday, November 2, 2022

Rain was predicted for Tuesday and Thursday this week so we rented bikes on Wednesday at Pop’ Bikes (14 eu each) and took a road to Cape d’Antibes about 45 minutes east of Cannes.  It was a beautiful seaside ride along mostly dedicated bike lanes.

We caught lunch in Juan les Pins at Paradise Thai Restaurant. It was quite good before moving on to Cape d’Antibes. Rebecca found the busy street non-bike paths challenging.

We returned the bikes in the evening and stopped for a nice sunset before making it home.

Another wonderful day in Cannes.

We move to our other Cannes apartment on Sunday for a month. We will miss our current place. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/44093509

Cannes, Saturday, October 29, 2022

Rebecca and I went for a nice evening walk. Here are a few shots.

Cannes, Thursday, October 28, 2022

Cannes has some cool murals. Here are a few.

.

Monaco, Tuesday, October 25, 2022

Today was Doug’s last day with us so we took an hour train ride to Monaco (10.2 EU each), along the beautiful coast.

We began with lunch at a pizza restaurant (8 & Demi), made a visit to The Jardin St. Martin, Rebecca’s favorite park, visited the hilltop castle and returned by train that afternoon. Sorry no casino visit this trip.

The Jardin St. Martin are located in the Monaco-Ville ward of Monaco. The gardens are made up of a series of paths on the south west face of the Rock of Monaco. They have an estimated area of 11,200 square meters.

Entrevaux, Monday October 24, 2022

We left at around 10 AM for a 1 1/2 hour drive to Entrevaux, a quaint medieval town north of Cannes. We arrived several hours later and that is the story.

Entrevaux in the Alpes de Haute Provence, is located 70 kilometers from Nice and 80 kilometers from Digne les Bains. Born from the ancient Roman city “Glanates” which became the bishopric of Glandèves in the 5th century, Interrivos, Entrevaus then Entrevaux, the fortified city developed around a rocky outcrop, in a loop of the Var river, dominated by the Citadel.

The Citadel – Gradually the fortifications are improved. Richelieu had the ramparts reinforced in 1624. Vauban, during his inspection tour, noticed a certain number of weaknesses. He remodeled a number of bastions and fortifications between 1683 and 1702 .

Considerably reinforced, it victoriously resisted the attacks of the Duke of Savoy in 1704 . Its citadel and its ramparts are reputed to be impregnable and will remain so until the integration of the county of Nice into France in 1860 .

Like many French forts, it served as a prison for German prisoners during the First World war

Our adventure began by setting the Google Maps to our destination to avoid tolls. Not long afterwards we were presented with a variety of switchback  road choices several of which we made questionable decisions. This resulted in our exploring some beautiful scenery in  way out of the way places including three high passes. We arrived 4 hours later and had a not so quick lunch in a rather deserted city.

Entrevaux was moderately interesting with a well defended citadel. We stayed abut an hour wandering around.

Wizening up we took the better traveled roads back and dropped off the rental car on our return.

Grasse, Sunday October 23, 2022

Our adventure for today was a car trip to Grasse, a 40 minute drive.

Grasse is a town on the French Riviera, in the hills north of Cannes. It’s known for its long-established perfume industry, and this heritage is celebrated at the Musée International de la Parfumerie, in the town center. Large perfumeries such as Fragonard, Molinard and Galimard offer tours. Grasse Cathedral, a former Roman Catholic cathedral in the old town, contains many paintings, including some by Rubens.

We visited the Musée International de la Parfumerie, (Perfume Museum) which was very interesting.

After we had a very nice lunch nearby and explored the town.

We returned mid day and then headed out for dinner at Le Cosi in Cannes. Walking home we enjoyed a beautiful evening.

NOTE: This is a data dump. I finally have a functioning laptop so I’m updating my posting. Begin at the bottom for a chronological look at recent happenings.

Cannes Area, Saturday October 22, 2022

Rebecca rested as Doug and I took a day trip to a few near by towns- Juan-les-Pins, Antibes, Cages Sur Mer and St. Laurent du Var.

It was enjoyable exploring on the seaside roads. I also was treated to a recap of some of Doug’s world travels. He has visited 90 countries so far.

When we returned to Cannes we noticed a road rally nearby.

Orange/Gigondas /Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Friday October 21, 2022

We awake to raging rain in our Orange hotel, had breakfast finishing just as the rain stopped. From there off to Gigondas  to drive through the local vineyards and lunched at Châteauneuf-du-Pape which houses the remains of the popes summer house and a first century Roman wine cave  and then return to Avignon for a walk though town and a visit to the papal gardens .

Gigondas is a French wine Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée in the southern Rhône wine region of France. It is primarily a red wine region, with a very small amount of rosé wine produced

Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a commune in the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region in Southeastern France. The village lies about 3 kilometres to the east of the Rhône and 12 kilometres north of the town of Avignon.

We headed home mid afternoon for the 2 ½ our drive back to Cannes. The GPS took us thought some serpentine roads just outside of Cannes. We made it home around 7PM. Doug and I had dinner at a local Chinese restaurant while Rebecca stayed home tired. It was a delightful trip.

Avignon /Orange, Thursday October 20, 2022

Doug rented a car and we headed out for Avignon . We visited the Palais des Papes (Popes’ Palace) and then headed over to Orange for the evening and night. That evening we walked by an ancient Roman Amipthetere (le Théâtre Antique d’Orange)  and L’arc antique d’Orange  from the 1st century.

The construction of the Palais des Papes in Avignon began in 1335 and took less than 20 years. It is the work of two popes builders, first Benedict XII, who built the first pontifical palace, now called Old Palace, then Clement VI, his successor who built new extensions, called New Palace.

It is the largest Gothic palace in the world with 15,000 square meters of floor space, the equivalent of 4 Gothic cathedrals.

The Palais des Papes is a residence, a monastery, the seat of power and a fortress. The fortifications protect the property of the church as well as the spiritual leader of the place. From 1305 to 1377, seven French popes sat in Avignon

The Triumphal Arch of Orange is a triumphal arch located in the town of Orange, southeast France. There is debate about when the arch was built, but current research that accepts the inscription as evidence favors a date during the reign of emperor Augustus in the first century.

The Roman Theatre of Orange is a Roman theatre in Orange, Vaucluse, France. It was built early in the 1st century AD. The structure is owned by the municipality of Orange and is the home of the summer opera festival, the Chorégies d’Orange.

Cannes, Wednesday October 19, 2022

Today we explored Cannes with Doug and took the Petit Train tour around town. Rebecca and I departed at the castle as we went to examine our next apartment which was down the road from that stop.

It is in a different part of Cannes and is not as well appointed as our current place but does cost considerable less. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/44093509. We will be there for November.

Here are a few Cannes shots.

Cannes, Tuesday October 18, 2022

Doug arrived today on time. I met him at the train station.

He brought my new laptop which is a godsend. We walked into town for a bite to eat.

Cannes, Monday October 17, 2022

Rebecca went in for a haircut and color and looked great afterwards. She also logged 15K steps.

I stopped into two real-estate offices to inquire about long term rentals. It seems that many people have apartments here for vacations and rent out the off days so it is difficult to lock in a full year. Rebecca has done some research and she seems to be more successful in finding candidates. We are currently committed through the end of December in Cannes/Nice and will soon be committing to our Jan Feb. months in Spain for warmer winter weather.

My friend Doug arrives tomorrow and we are looking forward to spending time with him. He is also bringing my new laptop with him. So I can update this blog soon.

Cannes, Saturday October 15, 2022

Today we had the pleasure of hosting some friends from Nice who we met months ago when we lived there. We met at a French language school event. Bruce and Sheila have dual citizenship (Canada and US) who are also in France on long stay visas.

They took the train in and walked to our apartment where we chatted on the balcony before heading out for a bite at a neighborhood restaurant. After which we explored Cannes on foot.

It was great to see them again.

We also heard back from our landlord regarding a long term rental. Sorry but they want to have occasional access so a long term rental is not possible. She did give us a lead on an agent to help us locate a similar apartment.

As you can see we really like Cannes and hope to find a long term place here. Our current place is a home run.

On Tuesday a friend from Chicago, Doug, will be visiting us for a week and a half. He is bringing my new laptop with him.

Cannes, Friday October 14, 2022

NOTE: Today’s comments are political in nature. If that bothers you feel free to skip today.

Yesterday the Jan 6 committee hearing was televised. They really brought to the forefront how much damage a narcissistic leader who totally disregards social norms and the law can cause to the country. It is truly breathtaking how he has commandeered a political party and exposed their singular quest for power.

Today the US is a very divided country, not just because of Trump but certainly accelerated by his actions, his lies and multiplied by right wing media like Fox, AON and others. This is a very unhealthy condition.

The radical republicans have sought to divide the country and gain power by vilifying their opponents. This plays right into Putin’s hand as one of his key goals is to devalue democracy as it is a threat to him

Many people have ended friendships over politics. I believe that this is a mistake, as it gives the dividers the very power they seek. I also have to confess that I have been tempted to end friendships myself.

I now realize that ending friendships over political beliefs empowers the right. I refuse to cede that power to them.

I don’t feel that my friends who support Trump and his gang are stupid. I’ve been in advertising too long to make that assumption. They have simply been misled. They have bought into a alternative narrative fueled by lies and half truths. That does not make my friends my enemies. It also does not mean that I can necessarily change their minds.

But isn’t ending a friendship over politics the same as doing so over race, religion or any other singular factor? As frustrating as it is to have friends who totally buy into the BS, I have to accept my friends as having flaws just as I have flaws. I refuse to allow politics to deprive me of friends, many of whom I have known much longer that Trump has been on the scene.

I will be patient, and mindful of not discussing politics with those who are not persuadable on this topic. I’m confident that over time the political hypocrisy will be exposed most likely when Trump leaves the country to avoid prosecution as the legal system closes in on him.

On a non political note, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset at the waters edge tonight.

Cannes, Thursday October 13, 2022

We have some friends from Nice planning to visit us on Saturday. It will be great to see them again. More on that later.

My new PC was to arrive on today in Chicago. I’m having it shipped to a friend’s place and he will bring it here on Tuesday when he visits.

As I was watching the Jan 6 committee hearings in the evening, I received a notice from UPS that they could not find his address so delivery failed. We double checked the address and it is correct. Doug made arraignments to pick it up at the UPS station on Sunday. I hope all goes well as it has been a real hassle not having a functioning PC or the ability to connect one to the internet. iPhones and iPads are not good substitutes for a functioning PC.

Cannes, Wednesday October 12, 2022

Rebecca found a possible place for November so I walked by it to check out the neighborhood. Not bad, but not quite the same as our current place.

We decided to get a covid test for Rebecca due to her cough. She tested negative. Great news.

Took another beautiful evening walk in our neighborhood on a beautiful evening.

Tomorrow we will contact our current landlord to check on pricing if we extend for a month (Nov). I was also able to modify our Nice least to one month (December) instead of two and book a new place in Cannes for November.

Nice, Tuesday October 11, 2022

I took the train (7.20 EU) to Nice today. First stop my Sushi place for lunch, than a walk to our storage unit to grab a few things.

I returned via the mid afternoon train.

We are negotiating to change our two months commitment in Nice to one month (Dec) so we can spend an additional month (Nov) in Cannes.

Rebecca spent most of the day in bed still fighting her persistent cough.

That night we took an evening sunset walk.

Cannes feels like a place we could settle down in.

View from our balcony.

Cannes, Monday October 10, 2022

Today I walked to a computer repair shop (Tech-n Easy) to have my laptop looked at. The owner Lionel Monson, took it apart, installed a new network card and tested it. No internet. Looks like a hardware problem. He spent at least an hour on it.

In the end he gave it back with the old network card in it, and added a free European power cord.

The cost? Nothing, He apologized for not being able to fix it.

I insisted that he accept 5 eu for a beer on me that night. He was happy.

I ordered a replacement laptop via Amazon.

Cannes, Friday October 7, 2022

Rebecca cold is getting the best of her so I went out for some cold medicine to help dry her up a bit

After I set out to find a computer repair guy to restore internet service to my laptop. I Goggled a few shops and set out to find one. After walking around a bit I discovered that the closes ones were actually fake addresses as the service is performed on line. Hot very helpful when the problem is I cant get online.

One guy suggested that I purchase a Cat6 cable and connect directly to the router. I tried that to no avail.

So I picked up a few more provisions for Rebecca and will address this issue tomorrow. It is frustrating to only have internet access via iPad and phone.

Bordeaux, Thursdays, October 6, 2022

Today I took a day trip to Bordeaux to retrieve our Fall things from storage, meet with our bank and get a haircut.

To get to Bordeaux I walked to the train station and took the 210 bus from Cannes to Nice airport (22 EU) . Then caught the 1230 Easy Jet flight to Bordeaux. Upon arrival I was looking around for the Tram B to get downtown and was told there was none. So I grabbed a Bus to downtown Nice. A helpful lady on the bus told were where to find my stop because the bus route had changed due to construction.

A arrived at the bank a few minutes before my appointment. There I opened a debit account with my bank to have a French card to use The cost is only 2EU/month.

After the bank I took the Tram B to our storage locker (35 mins) , closed out our account and retrieved our stuff- two bags of Fall clothing.

From there I took another Tram to our old neighborhood to get a 5 PM haircut with my Bordeaux barber who did a great job last time. (Salon Vincent, 27 Rue du Château d’Eau, 33000 Bordeaux). We communicated largely via Google Translate. I caught a quick bite at Woof Dog a favorite local eatery and headed to the bus with my bags for a lift back to the airport. Of course that stop had been moved as well so I had to hint for the new stop . the good news was ,all transportation in Bordeaux was via my train pass which still had a few trips left from our previous visit.

I arrived at the airport with plenty of time to spare before my 8:55 PM flight to Nice, proud of my surgical timing and accomplishments while in Bordeaux .

However, the night before I realized that returning to Cannes from the Nice airport at that hour (10:15 PM) would be no easy task. It seems that the last 210 bus from Nice to Cannes leaves at 10:05PM that day. Not possible to make. Also there were no train connections at that hour either.

My strategy was to ask passengers from my flight to Nice if anyone were going to Cannes. Fortunately I found a guy who was returning from a business trip and was taking a taxi to Cannes. We shared a ride to his apartment (Taxi ticket 90 EU), I gave him 30 EU and took the taxi home from there adding another 40 EU to the bill. Expensive but it could have been worse and giving me a lesson on timing my flights to Nice. A low airfare late at night is not always the best deal.

Venice to Cannes, Wednesday, October 5, 2022

Today we transition from a month in Venice to a month in Cannes.

We take a water taxi to the Airport in Venice, catch an Easy Jet to Nice, take a bus to Cannes station and a taxi to our new Air bnb.

Things went according to plan. We took the water boat from our dock (GuIlie) to the airport (15 Eu each) arriving in plenty of time for our 3:45 PM flight. We arrive in Cannes around 5PM just in time to catch the 210 bus to from Nice to Cannes and were dropped off at the Cannes train station.

After a few minutes of wandering around at the station with our bags we found the taxi pick up area. No Taxis.

To complicate matter we had to stop at the apartment of our hosts mother in law to pick up the keys.

We finally snagged a taxi and I dropped Rebecca with the bags off at the apartment door and took the taxi to the mother in laws place at 30 EU ride.

Arriving , all I had was a street address and discovered that it was for an apartment building.

I finally got cell reception, looked up the AirBnB info and found out the lady’s last name and buzzed her. Down comes a 81 year old Korean lady who spoke a modest amount of English. I was anxious to get back to Rebecca and the lady was happy to share her life story with me. Finally, Understanding about 20% of what she said I walked to the apartment (again no taxis), about a 20 minute trek with my cell battery running low for GPS.

Fortunately some nice French folks let Rebecca into the reception area where she was waiting. Rebecca is feeling a bit under the weather so I was a bit a of a tough day for hers

It turn out that the Air BnB did not have a apartment number but I was able to understand from the nice Korean lady that the apartment unit was on the 6th floor.

We tried a few doors and finally located the correct one at the end of the hall.

The good news was that the place is wonderful, two bedrooms, with a nice balcony, great views.

We dropped the bags and headed out to resupply provisions for a few days before the stores closed.

We enjoyed a beautiful sunset.

We are looking forward to our stay here. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/53597916

I should have mentioned earlier that my Laptop is now refusing to connect to the internet. I’ll have to get that fixed in Cannes.
